E-mail from Armando Gallo, Los Angeles, February 2002:
Dear Thomas,
Again I want to thank you and congratulate you! To congratulate you for the very fine job that you do with your web site. Genesis and their management should be proud of a fan like you.
And to thank you for helping so many true Genesis fans to reach me and... THE BOOK. Thanks to you I get messages like:
"I have been waiting to buy this book for the past 20 years", from Hans Voss, Germany.
"My ex wife went away with the book after our divorce", Paul Grossman, Chicago.
"I have just happened across The Path site with this address for contacting you about ordering your book. I am familiar with it as my older brother Robert had a copy he unfortunately lent out some years back and well it hasn't been seen since". Michael McEnroe.
"I live in Norway, and I'm only 16 years old, and I love Genesis. I play the drums and percussion myself and Phil Collins is my Hero! From 1971 to 1978 of course. I don't like 80-style. I think I like Genesis with Peter Gabriel better. Can I really read about Genesis?" Vegar Sando, Norway.
"A friend once had an original copy of the book that he loaned to another Genesis fan and never got it back. He has regretted that move ever since. I'm thinking of getting him a copy for his birthday." Steve Kegler.
"I have a great burning desire to obtain this book." Clayton Bennett, Washington.
It is wonderful to get mail from all over the world from people with one love in common, the music of Genesis. I am very happy and proud that sometime ago I decided (with your help) to reprint this book and now I am very glad to let you know that 500 copies are still available. ONLY by reaching me at ARGallo@aol.com and I will reply to everybody.
To most of you I would like to let you know that these days I live in Los Angeles where I work as a photojournalist covering all the new films and TV series produced in Hollywood. I am a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and that gets me to be a voting member of the prestigious Golden Globe Award.
Life is beautiful in sunny California and I feel very fortunate. Music is still my first love, but in the past 10 years rock stars havent been like they used to. Sometime I meet famous actors who love Genesis too. The very talented Billy Bob Thornton is one (se photo attached). After reading the book he called me up and said: "Armando, its so great that you did a book on Genesis, because a lot of people... they just missed them. And they only know the Genesis that was the later years. The very last version."
"Thanks Billy Bob", I replied. "The book now seems to capture that amazing, early magical period, when most of the people just miss them, youre right! It was five kids who did five amazing album, while they were between 19 and 24 years of age. Piles and piles of great stuff."
"Yeah. I loved them," said Billy Bob. "And they had something that nobody else had. They were very different. There wasn't anybody else that sounded like them or had a show like them."
Billy Bob is a great musician too. On e of his other favorite band is Gentle Giant. He has his first solo album out, at age 45!J Its a wonderful cd called "Private Radio". Go and check it out. It's an inner trip into the angels and demons harboring in our souls. Be ready for his second cd, 13 very electric cover versions of his favorite songs when he was a kid (mid '60's). And catch him on tour in Europe an USA in March and May.
One Love,
Armando Gallo
