Celebrating an official news provider! (... and myself)
As mentioned on the front, Hit & Run recently launched a new and official Genesis site, and the look'n'feel of it seems very promising. One of the site's main tasks, is to provide the fan camp with official news, in addition to interesting archive material etc. Obviously quite content-heavy.

There is really no reason for me to cut and paste their news stuff onto The Path, so in all my humbleness I will mainly refer to the official site for news blurbs and updates (yes, indeed), and focusing more on content not found there or on other brilliant sites out there.

The Path's main aim for the future is to share and present
fans' perspectives and opinions on all things Genesis (including my own), reveal "secrets" not widely known, brush up and redesign the article section, and in general provide The Path's visitors with stuff not likely to be published elsewhere, in an attractive way. (A presentation of Genesis' unofficial recordings are in the works.) Already existing examples are (for new visitors):

And more hidden treasures are found on The Path anno 1998 and The Path anno 1999 (sorry for some dead links there)...

You might think is a not a very humble effort to keep fans visiting The Path - a kind of "Check out The Path's Greatest Hits", and you're probably right.

All I want to say is that I got very inspired after checking out the new official site, and I look forward to do my fair share of making the Genesis online community as informed and delighted as possible. If you have any comments, suggestions or contributions, please contact me at genesis-path@mailbox.as - or phone +4795109799.

So, what did Phil instead of fishing?
Following Phil's comments in Record Collector, I wrote a few words to the magazine, and these words were printed in the 'Your Letters' section the next month, January 2001:
"I noticed with interest what Phil Collins said about a Scandinavian duo who asked him to appear on of their tracks. The duo was the Norwegian band called Tobben & Ero, and the album was 'Gi meg et hus' ('Give Me a House'). The recording took place after Genesis' first European Lamb gig in Oslo in February 1975. I've been trying to track T&E's LP down for some years, without luck."

Anyway, this week I finally found a CD compilation of Tobben & Ero's hits, including 'Skammens Terskel' with Phil on drums. Phil's contribution is explained this way: "During the Summer of 1976 (!) were the members of Genesis on a short visit to Norway, mainly for fishing. Drummer Phil Collins preferred to stay in town (Oslo), and visited Polygram Studios. There he met Tobben & Ero, then finishing their album. They asked Phil if he wanted to play drums on one of their tracks, 'Skammens Terskel'."

Italian fanclub Dusk - 10 years!
I recently got an e-mail from Mario: I just wanted to let you know that Dusk is now 10 years old! I celebrated the event with a special issue of the magazine, including 5 exclusive interviews (among them Ray, Tony and Mike), as well as handwritten salutes from Ray, Tony, Mike, Peter, Phil, Daryl, Anthony and Paul Carrack!
I am sending you the mag via post, and I would like you to mention this in your web site. In the meantime, I am attaching the last sleeve.
Kind regards from Mario Giammetti.

Thanks a lot Mario - and congrats with your new and beautiful - and flashy - website! For those of you who still haven't bookmarked the new Dusk Online, just do it!

Steve Hackett - Tokyo Tapes on DVD soon
Camino is in the process of putting together a DVD edition of The Tokyo Tapes. This will include the two extra tracks from the CD as audio tracks plus 18 minutes of rehearsal footage showing the chaps struggling manfully with all those complicated Genesis tunes.

Steve Hackett - Outwitting Hitler
Steve has recently been working on music for a new documentary. Directed by Chris Ward and shot on location in America, Australia and Israel, "Outwitting Hitler" is the true story of a Jewish art student living in Poland during World War Two who used his skill as an artist to forge Nazi documents. He saved himself and many others from the Holocaust.

Check out some samples of the music at

The Genesis Songbook - soon available
Here's Alan's story, and review, of The Genesis Songbook, a forthcoming DVD and video release covering interesting aspects of our favourite group's musical development. "
Utilising old footage and some new performances specifically recorded by Tony, Phil an Mike last autumn including a truly glorious acoustic 'Afterglow' with just Phil and Tony, the programme manages to tell the Genesis story succinctly and without any undue nostalgia..." | read more
